Can I study to be a midwife in Canada through distance learning? 5

I am living in Saskatchewan and am very interested in studying to become a midwife. From what I have learned the only universities that offer degrees are UBC and 3 in Ontario. I have a family and relocating to go to school is not an option. Are there any programs that would be recognized in Canada that offer online learning with a local practical experience component?

What should we get for our doula? 2

I just gave birth on 6-16 and had a wonderful experience due, in part, to an amazing doula.
I am looking for suggestions on what to get her as a gift of appreciation. She and her husband have two young children and one on the way (so a nice bottle of wine is out). She's a vegetarian and kind of hippie-like.
Ideas?

- gift certificate for a massage
- gift basket with a sage stick, lavender oil, and oil burner.

Can you take natural laxatives during pregnancy and heardrops for ear infection? 4

I was prescribed antibiotic for my hear infection, something that it was safe for the baby but also gave me some heardrops, and I just wonder if it was also safe for the baby !! The constipation has been awful since I have problems with constipation before so while pregnant it becomes a big deal, so please if anyone know if you can use natural laxatives please let me know!!! they don't usually give cramps or make run to the bathroom, they just help me go (usually when I take it while I am nor pregnant!!)

If you were prescribed antibiotics for an ear infection while pregnant, then your doctor knows best.

As far as a natural laxative goes, a glass of milk immediately followed by a glass of orange juice always worked for me. Other things to try…Bran Flakes or muffins, prunes or prune juice are recommended before OTC Metamucil. Try a diet high in fruits and vegetables and low in meats and breads. Drink lots of water and fruit juice; avoid lots of milk and sodas.

Ask your doctor at your next appointment, or just give him a quick call, (your paying for his time!)

I really am, its so weird. I can't wait to feel my baby emerging from me. I watched a childbirth video on youtube and actually got aroused because it was so beautiful!! No epi for me. I just cant wait to hold my pumpkin and I find it truly amazing that this baby that my husband put inside me emerges from that little opening. Am i weird for being excited?

Holy smokes! I cannot believe some of these replies! I have had three natural births, and two with epidurals(those were my first two before I figured it out)…Either way, it is the most awesome, indescribable feeling in the world to birth that baby! You are not weird, gullible, anything..It's normal, and it is a good thing! That is what our bodies were made to do! I was actually thinking about it the other day..I am about 25 weeks, and I cant wait to do it again..Pain and all! Yes, it hurts, but again, it was designed that way..We do have the coping mechanisms in us, but most of us don't figure out how…Good luck to you!

Why do some women prefer to have a natural childbirth? 22

I have never had a baby, nor am I pregnant, but when I do have a baby, I cannot imagine putting myself through all that pain.
Why would someone deliberately put themselves through all that pain when they can have the baby without pain?
I am just curious to know.

I think some women want natural childbirths because they want to be heros and seem superior, or they are afraid of the side effects of other methods. I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter. I had an epidural right away and am so glad for it. I am 8 weeks pregnant and will have an epidural again. I'm a strong woman but I don't need to prove anything but having all natural childbirth. I'm smart enough to get an epidural.
